To begin using Blackboard you must setup your NetID. You will need to either have your U# or USF ID Card to activate your NetID.  Visit https://netid.usf.edu/una/ and click "Activate your USF NetID" to begin. For step-by-step directions to activate your NetID click here.

When using Blackboard we recommend using Firefox or IE8. You will also want to run the latest version of Java which can be downloaded by visiting Sun's website at http://www.sun.com


Logging into Blackboard

To access Blackboard visit my.usf.edu and enter your NetID and Password then click "Sign In."

If you ever forget your NetID or password visit https://netid.usf.edu/una to recover it.



 Click on the Blackboard button located in the top menu.


Navigating Blackboard

The Welcome Page

Once logged in you will see the "Welcome" screen which is a customizable area with three primary sections.

  • Top Navigation bar (1) lets you browse through the various areas of Blackboard. You can access the myUSF tab,Courses, Content Collection, and USF Library resources by using the tabs at the top of the screen.
  • Welcome page tabs (2) which is visible under the "myUSF" tab allows you to access a variety of services. These services are related to student organizations, faculty assistance, technical support, mobile updates, and general myUSF settings.
  • Main Display area (3) is where Modules such as My Google Apps @ USF, Course List, and USF Faculty/Staff E-Mail Services are displayed. Each of the main pages accessed from the Navigation bar has a customizable display area.

You can rearrange, add or remove modules from the main display area to make each of the MyUSF pages and tabs your own.

Accessing Your Courses

You can access your courses by clicking on the name of the course in the Course List located on either your Welcome tab or your Courses tab.



Instructors View

The course is broken into three main areas including the Course Menu, Control Panel, and Content Area.

In order to edit the course you will want to make sure that it is set to "Edit Mode: ON." This setting is found in the upper right of the content area.

  1. Course Menu: Lists content areas and their status. This is the menu that your students use.
  2. Course Management Menu/Control Panel: Allows access to instructor specific areas such as the Grade Center & Roster.
  3. Content Area: Show the materials or tools within your course as you access them through the two menus.
  4. Edit Mode: Allows you to toggle between edit modes while viewing your course.
